Through its mobile library services, Newtoro reaches readers in all ten districts of the country, delivering books directly to communities and readers’ doorsteps. The organization works to strengthen a culture of reading while providing resources that support literacy, self-development, and lifelong learning. In addition to promoting reading, Newtoro also supports youth through career guidance initiatives that encourage educational growth, skills development, and informed career pathways.

Position Summary

The Communications Officer supports the visibility and outreach of Newtoro Books by managing communications, media engagement, and public awareness activities. The position is responsible for promoting Newtoro’s programs, documenting activities, and strengthening the organization’s public presence across communication platforms.

The role plays an important part in sharing Newtoro’s impact, promoting literacy initiatives, and strengthening relationships with communities, partners, and supporters.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage social media and communication campaigns.
  • Create promotional content for programs, events, and literacy initiatives.
  • Design and produce communication materials such as posters, newsletters, and program updates.
  • Document organizational activities through photos, stories, and impact highlights.
  • Manage Newtoro’s social media platforms and update content regularly.
  • Support promotion of reading programs, community events, and literacy campaigns.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders, media outlets, and program partners.
  • Assist with public outreach and awareness campaigns that promote literacy and youth development.
  • Support the preparation of communication materials for reports, proposals, and organizational updates.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communication platforms.

Qualifications

Education

Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Media Studies, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.

Experience

  • Experience in communications, media, marketing, or public relations is preferred.
  • Experience managing social media platforms and communication campaigns is an asset.
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations, community programs, or youth initiatives is desirable.
